"The Artizans have mastered the merging of classical and modern, resulting in an authentic blend of old and new; and have challenged basic music genres to create their own label of sound." (Adam not Eve)

"If they can produce an album of similar work then a Mercury nomination is surely on the cards." (The Sound of Confusion)

"If you’re looking for a new slant on music then London based Josephine & The Artizans could be ‘just what the doctor ordered’."

"JATA never cease to amaze me with their unique mix of stylised hip-hop, frantic rap, and symphonised opera; it’s like mixing Beethoven with Dizzee Rascal." (Adam not Eve)

"It's off the chain, awesome in fact." (Bearly Rambling)

"A quite bewildering release from Josephine and the Artizans – ‘dies irae’ is a tempestuous rollercoaster buckled and braced in a formidable culture clash of opposing melodic worlds where punk zoid string arrangements, storm warring operatic chorals and street cool hip hop rhapsodies come colliding to craft a frenzied carnival of sound that forms a flame hot bridge between classical and modern sonic tongues." (Sunday Experience)

Josephine & The Artizans are a HipHopera band from London. The group blend Classical Music with HipHop to create a unique, fresh and innovative sound.

Classically trained Josephine was growing increasingly tired of the cultural gap between the pop-scene and classical world. They are both, of course, based on the same thing. For years people have been becoming more and more catholic in their tastes, so she decided to create something which is neither classical or commercial, but a blend of both.

Josephine & The Artizans have received wide spread acclaim since performing at the UK's biggest music festivals including Glastonbury, Latitude, Camp Bestival, WOMAD, BBC Carfest, Boomtown Fair, NASS, Standon Calling and Belladrum Tartan. The band have received amazingly positive reviews and airplay on national radio stations from such reputable sources as Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music, BBC 3 Counties, and Premier Radio as well as an overwhelming response from online and printed press, for example Fresh On The Net, Aesthetica Magazine, Love Music Magazine, Adam Not Eve and The Times. The group have also been creating a buzz with their unforgettable live show in their hometown, London, with performances on the main stage at the massive O2 Islington, the legendary Bush Hall, Brixton’s award winning Hootananny and Camden’s world famous Jazz Cafe.
